Forward engineering: add an AI with one line, remove it with one line

One line to add an AI to a website. One line to take it off. And the next day, the site is exactly as it was. In 1968, at Garmisch in Germany, a NATO conference discussed the software crisis and endorsed the idea of a discipline: software engineering. In 1990, an article in IEEE Software defined forward engineering: moving from an abstract design to the concrete implementation of a system. In 2024, the European Data Act entered into force; it aims to make it easier to switch cloud service providers. This idea has a name: forward engineering. Three ideas. Let's go. One: build forward. You don't take apart what already exists to fit a model in. You start from the process as it runs today. The website stays the website, the booking system stays the booking system, procedures stay procedures. What gets added is a conversation layer on top: it reads what it's given, and never writes back into those systems. Two: the lock-in effect. Deep integration isn't a trap. It's a mechanism. Every connector is an instant gain, and one more dependency. The deeper it goes, the more useful it gets, and the more it costs to get out. Three: the exit test. The day you want to switch tools, what do you have to undo? Deep integration means unplugging connectors, bringing the data back, rewriting the rules, retraining the teams. An external layer? You remove one line. A load-bearing wall, or a piece of furniture. That's the choice KOAEE made.
