Trading bot: why it does (almost) nothing, and that's by design
Thousands of price moves, not one order: is this trading bot broken? No. Three steps: find a signal in the noise, clear the conviction threshold, pass the safeguards up to the kill switch. A short history: Nasdaq in 1971, a flash crash in 2010, a kill switch required in Europe since 2018. This is not investment advice. The KOAEE assistant follows the same rule: it warns you instead of guessing.

This trading bot has watched the market all morning: thousands of price moves, not one order. Broken? No: that's its job. In 1971, Nasdaq launched in the United States: an electronic system that displays stock prices on screens. In 2010, a large automated sell order contributed to a sudden drop in US markets, followed by a quick rebound. Since January 2018, European firms trading algorithmically must be able to cancel their orders immediately: this is the kill switch. Act, or do nothing: how does the algorithm decide? Three steps. Step one: find a signal in the noise. The price never stops moving, and most of those moves mean nothing. The model looks for a pattern, say a fast and a slow average. When the fast one crosses the slow one, that's a signal. But only a hypothesis. Step two: the conviction threshold. Every signal gets a confidence score. Below the threshold, it holds back: when in doubt, stay out. Only above it does it consider an order. So most of the time, it does nothing. By design. Step three: safeguards. Even when it's convinced, the order must pass pre-trade checks: a price range, a maximum size. And above it all, a kill switch: an emergency stop that cancels every pending order. In Europe, algorithmic trading firms have needed one since 2018. Reminder: this is not investment advice. Investing carries a risk of losing money, with or without an algorithm. The KOAEE assistant follows the same rule: on sensitive topics, it warns you rather than forcing an answer. At a clinic, it won't recommend medicine and points you to a professional. At an insurer, it asks you to have the answer confirmed by staff. To understand AI in 150 seconds, subscribe to the channel. The AI that stays between you. Try it at koaee.ai.
